Singapore’s MICE industry spent 2026 being measured against a new set of expectations. Trade coverage has tracked the country’s MICE Sustainability Roadmap earning Global Sustainable Tourism Council recognition, and the same coverage describes delegates increasingly expecting sustainability credentials and genuine cultural connection alongside the usual agenda of sessions and networking. A programme built entirely around venues and coach transfers is being asked to answer for both now, not just one.
A guided heritage walk starts from an advantage most MICE activities have to work to justify: there’s no coach idling between stops, no venue to book and cool, no separate transport line item for the activity itself. The group walks from the conference hotel or a nearby MRT station straight into a real neighbourhood. It’s a genuinely lower-footprint activity by the nature of the format, without anything extra needing to be staged to make that true.
The other half of what planners are now being asked to source, a delegate coming away with something more substantive than a photo stop, is what a story-led walk was already built for. A route through Chinatown’s clan associations or Kampong Glam’s mosque and shophouse streets gives delegates a real, specific story to talk about afterward, not a generic “cultural moment” slotted into the schedule to tick a box.
